The Bloodhound Project About BLOODHOUND SSC Education

BLOODHOUND’s educational activities are provided through BLOODHOUND SSC Education Ltd, a registered charity.

What we do

The Charity’s mission is to inspire a generation of students to explore and get involved in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

The Education Team bring the curriculum to life through the excitement of the BLOODHOUND Project. They visit schools, colleges and other educational establishments, delivering a wide range of practical activities linked back to the real-life technology and challenges overcome in building BLOODHOUND SSC. The charity is supported by donations and partnerships with a range of STEM organisations and the support of individual and corporate volunteers.

Our activities

BLOODHOUND SSC Education has developed a variety of activities that are designed to engage students of all ages and abilities. These are regularly reviewed and refreshed to ensure that the content, where applicable, links with the UK’s educational National Curriculum and supports the needs of industry. We also provide physical and online resources that are accessible at any time.

Among our activities are:

  • Activity days and workshops – Delivered in schools and colleges, and at the BLOODHOUND Technical Centre (BTC) near Bristol. Some are provided in conjunction with external partners and all are supported by linked resources, which, alongside any data gathered during the workshop, can support follow-on activities.
  • Interactive science shows – We can provide a self-contained event or join a larger one, with activities that explain how jet engines and rockets work, why BLOODHOUND is the shape it is, and examples of STEM in action.
  • Speaking engagements – Members of our team can give inspiring presentations and demonstrations, sometimes in conjunction with other activities, based on the history of the World Land Speed Record and the BLOODHOUND Project.
  • Education resources – We have free resources for teachers and parents which are available to download from this website; these are age specific and linked to the National Curriculum. There are also coding projects available through our partnership with Oracle Academy. We are currently developing accredited teacher CPD (continued professional development) sessions on STEM activities. These will link with our existing resources.
  • Exhibitions – We held a very successful BLOODHOUND-themed exhibition at the Royal Cornwall Museum and aim to replicate this elsewhere in future.

Partnerships and supporters

The charity is fortunate to have a range of individual and organisational supporters who make our work possible – although we are always looking for more! Please contact us if you are interested in either working as a STEM Ambassador or discussing possible partnership opportunities.

We work with STEM institutions, charities, businesses and educationalists, including:

Some provide funding, some provide facilities and/or resources, and others help us to develop and produce our workshops and other activities. Within some organisations, staff are trained as STEM Ambassadors as part of their corporate social responsibility activities.
