The ss Great Britain returned to its home port of Bristol in 1970 and has rapidly become one of the most popular tourist attractions in the south west, recently receiving the accolade of UK Museum Of The Year. Add to this the exciting education opportunities afforded by the history of Brunel’s ship located adjacent to the Bloodhound Technical Centre and you can appreciate the phrase – ‘from Brunel to BLOODHOUND SSC’. The new Brunel Institute, which provides a stunning new entrance to Brunel’s dry-dock, is scheduled to open at the end of November 2010 and this new building will for the first time bring together the entire Isambard Kingdom Brunel archive. The Brunel Institute is also looking to inspire the next generation of Brunel’s and is therefore working towards the same aim of the BLOODHOUND SSC project – developing the next generation of scientists and engineers. See http://www.ssgreatbritain.org for what's on, venue hire, museum and education news, including the Brunel Institute.

Teachers TV - Launched in November 2010, the first instalment of the investigation into the latest British land speed record attempt. Find out how schools are using this project to encourage KS3 students to take up science, technology, engineering and maths subjects. www.teachers.tv
