The BLOODHOUND STEM Ambassadors’ team at Rolls-Royce has scooped the ‘People’s Choice Award’ at the company’s recent 'Trusted to Deliver Excellence' Awards, having received the most votes from employees across the company.

Rolls-Royce's STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) Ambassadors are dedicated to firing the imaginations of schoolchildren so that they become the next generation of engineers. The Ambassadors proudly and professionally represent Rolls-Royce at events and in schools across the UK, knowing that what they're doing is critical to the long-term success and sustainability of the company.

One project in particular has enabled these passionate volunteers to 'weave their magic' and inspire youngsters to take up careers in engineering and manufacturing – our sponsorship of the BLOODHOUND 'Engineering Adventure'. For years, members of the joint Rolls-Royce/BLOODHOUND Inspirers – STEM Ambassador Team have given up their spare time at weekends and in the evenings to bring to life the story of BLOODHOUND.

The award submission for the team read: "This team of volunteers has given up many evenings and weekends dedicated to enthusing youngsters with our passion for STEM and inspiring the next generation of engineers with tales about a supersonic car (BLOODHOUND) powered by a Rolls-Royce engine."

In 2017 the BLOODHOUND Project achieved a big milestone when it performed its first test runs in front of the public and global media – and this team was at the heart of the event. Team members set up a STEM stand featuring a full size cut away of the EJ200 engine that is powering BLOODHOUND. The stand stole the show.

At a business level, the BLOODHOUND Project showcases both the capability of the EJ200 engine and our support capabilities. The EJ200 is a consortium product, which we support as lead partner for the Royal Air Force and Royal Saudi Air Force. Team members on the stand talked knowledgably about gas turbine engines and the attributes of our engine with visiting engineers and the media.

The team's great work is ongoing. It is now engaging with BLOODHOUND and the RAF in establishing 'STEM Hub' schools where pupils from communities close to Rolls-Royce sites and RAF bases (where our Defence business has deployed service operations) can gather to design, make and race model rocket cars in a safe and fun way.

That's why these BLOODHOUND Inspirers/STEM Ambassadors are 'trusted to deliver excellence'.
