Welcome to the BLOODHOUND Project, the engineering adventure for the 21st century. The United Kingdom has long been famed for its engineering heritage, but in recent years we have had little to shout about, until now!
The primary objective of the Project is to inspire the next generation to pursue careers in science, engineering, technology and maths - by demonstrating how they can be harnessed to achieve the seemingly impossible, such as the BLOODHOUND 1,000 mph land speed record . Because the FIA World Land Speed Record rules are minimal, the challenger cars tend to be very different and therefore because the technology is unlikely to be of value to a competitor, there is no need to be secretive about the technology. So it can (and will) all be made available on the web – just as it happens. This is unique: the Defence, Motor Race and Space industries are unable to share their technology in this way.
Our BLOODHOUND Education Programme is dedicated to bringing the project into the UK’s classrooms. Over 3,000 Primary and Secondary schools are already using BLOODHOUND as a vehicle for teaching maths, science and technology and this figure is growing very fast.
BLOODHOUND SSC (Super Sonic Car) has been designed to run at speeds up to 1,050 mph and being jet and rocket powered has 133,000 ehp (about the same as 180 Formula 1 cars). We are currently entering the build phase of the programme and the first attempt is scheduled for 2011 with an initial target of 800mph. The car will then be reviewed and modified before aiming for 1,000 mph in 2012.
This project would not be possible without your help. The car’s build is entirely funded by corporate sponsorship and public support. The education arm of the Project is part-funded by the Department of Children Schools and Families. So please get involved and join the supporters club, the BLOODHOUND 1K Club, and have your name on the BLOODHOUND tail fin!
The project has fought a huge battle to survive to this point – we are now into 400% expansion as we build the BLOODHOUND SSC.
Thank you for visiting our site – we all hope you enjoy the experience!
